NERCHE concludes Community Engagement Project in Ireland

On November 14-16, 2016, John Saltmarsh, NERCHE’s director, and Dr. Elaine Ward from Merrimack College (and NERCHE Visiting Scholar) met with representatives of nine institutions of higher education from both the University and Institute of Technology sectors in Ireland to provide feedback on campus self-assessments of community engagement. The campuses (University College Cork; University of Limerick; Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology; Athlone Institute of Technology; Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland; TU4Dublin Alliance; Trinity College Dublin; NUI Galway, and the Institute of Technology, Tralee) all completed the Carnegie Community Engagement framework for the purpose of both self assessment and to consider how the framework might be adapted for wider use in Ireland. The project, funded by the Talloires Network, The Ireland Funds, the Community Knowledge Initiative, the National University of Ireland Galway, and the University of Massachusetts, Boston, will culminate with a book on the findings from the project.
