- Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U)
In the fall of 2005, NERCHE began serving as an “Academic Partner” with AAC&U. As part of this collaboration, NERCHE is engaged in publicity and program planning for a series of AAC&U conferences and sponsors a session at each meeting.
- In November 2005, NERCHE co-sponsored a session on graduate student research with Campus Compact at conference on The Civic Engagement Imperative: Student Learning and the Public Good. NERCHE also hosted a reception for all graduate students attending the conference as a way for young scholars to network with senior scholars around their research
interests.
- In October 2006, NERCHE will sponsor a session entitled “Searching for Faculty of Color and Sustaining their Presence on Campus” at the Diversity and Learning: A Defining Moment conference in Philadelphia. The session will be conducted by Ines Maturana Sendoya and Helena Santos of the Multicultural Affairs Think Tank and NERCHE Associate Director, Glenn Gabbard.
- In November 2006, AAC&U will sponsor a national meeting focusing on Faculty Work and the New Academy: Emerging Challenges and Evolving Roles. John Saltmarsh, NERCHE Director, and Dwight E. Giles, Jr., one of NERCHE’s senior associate will present A New Model for Faculty Preparation and Support for the Scholarship of Engagement, along with Lorilee R. Sandmann, University of Georgia and Amy Driscoll, The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
- Collaborating with the American Conference of Academic Deans, in January 2007 AAC&U will convene its national meeting in New Orleans, focusing on the theme, THE REAL TEST: Liberal Education and Democracy’s Big Questions. NERCHE will sponsor a panel presentation led by Peter Kiang, chair of UMB’s Asian-American Studies program, entitled Post-Katrina Refugee Rebuilding and the Role of Asian American Studies Praxis -- Lessons from Student Engagement with New Orleans¹ Vietnamese Community. John Saltmarsh and Cathy Burack from Brandeis University will also conduct a workshop session on evaluation of service learning programs and practices.
- Coalition of Urban & Metropolitan Universities (CUMU)
NERCHE and Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) are partnering to manage the Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement. NERCHE will continue to be the Lynton Award home, and will also be primarily responsible for the selection of the annual award recipient and finalists. The award will be presented each year at CUMU’s annual conference. This year’s award will be presented on Monday,

- Worcester UniverCity Partnership
The Worcester UniverCity Partnership brings together institutions of higher education, the City of Worcester, and the business community in a collaborative effort to promote economic development in Worcester, MA. NERCHE and the Worcester UniverCity Partnership are hosting a series of events focusing on the role of colleges and universities in economic development. Through the use of nationally recognized speakers and engaged local practitioners, the programs are intended to stimulate dialogue around the efforts of institutions of higher education and their public and private partners as they seek to revitalize their local communities.
